# Default settings

By default, CareSuite uses the Mailgun e-mail service to send report e-mails. No further configuration is required, if outgoing connectsions to smtp.mailgun.org on Port 587 are allowed.

# Custom SMTP server

To configure a custom SMTP server, add the following section to the /opt/caresuite/data/caresuite.toml file:

host = "your.smtp.server"
port = 587
username = "smtp-username"
password = "smtp-password"

Run the cs.restart command to restart your CareSuite process with the new configuration.

# Checking outgoing connections

To check if access to the default e-mail service from a customer's network is available, run the following commands in a Terminal:

telnet smtp.mailgun.org 587

If the following output appears, outgoing connections are allowed. Type quit and press Enter to exit the telnet session.

Connected to smtp.mailgun.org.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 Mailgun Influx ready

If the Connected to smtp.mailgun.org line does not appear, outgoing connections are blocked. In this case, you need to contact the IT administrator of the network to either allow outgoing traffic or provide you with credentials to send mail via an internal SMTP server.
